If you’d like to work at Boxee, be sure to check out the openings at boxee.tv/Jobs. Our latest position: Senior Backend Developer. This position is essential to create and maintain a new web experience for Boxee. It will be a mixture of Backend and Application development. We’re a small team, so the more hats you can wear the better.
Watching the Superbowl in Tel Aviv. No American commercials :( I participated in a documentary called The People vs George Lucas. It explores the history of Star Wars and the culture it has created in its wake. It reveals all the positive and negative feelings the universe has spawned. Star Wars: Uncut is such a perfect complement to this film. It’s a giant window into the Star Wars culture, exposing the passion and creativity of Star Wars fans across the world. The People vs George Lucas has been selected for the Spotlight Premiere section at the SXSW Film Festival. I am thrilled that our two films share a participatory spirit. I’ll be attending SXSW with them and potentially having a SW:Uncut screening as well.
Boxee is hiring a developer intern! I’m looking for someone to help me support the Bookmarklet and other various scripts. You’ll be in charge of getting as much content as possible onto Boxee. You should have excellent Javascript skills, know what Firebug is, and a good history with HTML+CSS. Basic PHP and RegEx knowledge is a plus. Come see Kara Suzanne at Joe’s Pub tomorrow! Purchase tickets. Download Parlor Walls. “Kara Suzanne is part sullen cowgirl, part seductive cabaret singer and all soulful folk-rock songstress. She bewitches audiences with her songs that are simultaneously heartbreaking and carefree. Kara Suzanne is the sort of singer who invites you along on the ride through her life and her loves with a sound and songs that are contemporary and distinctly her own. She’s this generation’s answer to Emmylou Harris and Patty Griffin.” Robo.to allows you to create 4-second, video avatars using your webcam or camera phone. Simply put, they are video status updates. It’s a basic concept, but their execution is formidable. There are plenty of sites where you’re allowed to upload animated GIFs as your avatar, but it appears to be magic to the non-tech savvy. I would love to see this type of service integrated into larger sites as an alternative to your static self-image. Restricting the length of the video forces creativity out of people and keeps the spirit of the animated GIF. I look forward to the other products Particle creates. To top off my high I got from Boxee’s success at CES, I hopped on over to San Francisco to meet with Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm and Star Wars Uncut are exploring the possibilities of collaboration. We had a fantastic brainstorm session. I got a full tour of the Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic offices. Inside is incredible. Filled with tons of toys, movie posters and nostalgia in every single office. Unfortunately, you’re not allowed to take photos once you’re inside except for one exception; You have to be in the photo yourself. I took the time to sit in Mr. Lucas’ spot at the conference table and snap a photo. They have their own coffee shop called, “Java the Hutt”.
